Free CityHoppers start 1 July
Catch the red and white CityHopper for free every half hour between 6am and midnight, seven days a week.
From Sunday 1 July, the Inner City Ferry service will begin a new life as the CityHopper service linking Sydney Street, Dockside, Holman Street, Eagle Street Pier, Thornton Street , Maritime Museum, South Bank 3 and North Quay terminals along the inner city stretch of the Brisbane River.
The distinctive red and white ferries fulfil a $6 million election commitment by Lord Mayor Graham Quirk, creating Brisbane’s first inner-city free ferry service.
Cr Quirk said, “By providing a free ferry service in Brisbane’s inner city, we hope to encourage more residents and visitors to enjoy the river and local destinations like South Bank, Kangaroo Point, the CBD and New Farm.”
“This initiative is similar to the red Council buses that loop the CBD, and is consistent with my vision for Brisbane to become a more accessible city.”
From 1 July, residents and visitors can travel to key inner-city locations for free aboard the CityHopper, seven days a week from 6am to midnight, with services every half hour.
The new service is expected to complement the paid Kangaroo Point cross river ferry service and the CityCat service, promoting local tourist destinations and giving ferry patronage a much-needed boost.
